KidWind Offshore Wind Academy is a new summer program to start teachers and students on the pathway to increased learning about offshore wind through guest speakers, hands-on classroom activities and field trips. In 2022, the KidWind Offshore Wind Academy will be held from July 24th through July 29th at Mass Maritime Academy.
Experiences may include guided tours of the facilities related to renewable energy at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, research labs in Woods Hole, a steel rolling facility in Middleboro, and the Blade Testing Facility in Boston. These field trips will be supported by classroom learning, which will provide foundational knowledge of wind energy, design and drafting principles, material sciences, and blade testing.
There is no cost to attend. Both students and teachers receive a stipend to attend and travel costs reimbursed to get to and from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Teachers receive 1 graduate credit from University of Delaware.
