Land-Base Wind & Offshore Wind Workforce Training

Self-Reliance is developing technical and health & safety training programs for the offshore and land-based wind industry, which will be offered in Massachusetts.

There is strong demand for technicians in the land-based wind industry and there are positions for highly skilled workers throughout North America.

It is essential to have US workers prepared to work in the North American offshore wind industry. In order to work offshore, they must be properly trained to a very high standard of health and safety training. We have been working to build the foundation for this training in Massachusetts. We fully understand that workers seeking training may find the first portion of their work outside of the US, which will prepare them well for offshore wind work in the US when the industry has more projects under construction.

Self-Reliance offers subject matter expertise in land-based wind training and offshore wind technical and environmental health and safety training.

We offer consulting to entities looking to set up an offshore wind training program. Our personalized approach identifies existing assets in the context of what facilities are necessary for successful training. We highlight the best ways to leverage and engage existing instructors and resident technical expertise, as well as analyze the best approach for attaining a sustainable market share within the growing industry.

Our Executive Director, Megan Amsler, has been working for over a decade to establish the US’s first suite of Global Wind Organization Basic Safety Training with Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Megan is GWO certified in all five of the Basic Safety Training modules and is an instructor as well. The modules are:

  • First Aid
  • Fire Awareness
  • Working at Heights
  • Manual Handling
  • Sea Survival

Please contact Mass Maritime Academy https://www.maritime.edu/professional-training/offshore-wind-training to enroll or for more information on the GWO program.

We work with organizations looking to determine where they fit within the offshore wind supply chain. We help identify funding and training programs that can provide assistance in making the transition into the industry.
