“We are really excited to offer residents and businesses the opportunity to get solar through this new program. No panels on your roof, no long-term contract-it is a great way to save money on your electricity bill and support local solar in our region ” said Self-Reliance Executive Director, Megan Amsler.
A Community Shared Solar (CSS) project is a solar photovoltaic (PV) system that provides benefits – such as electricity, net metering credits, and return on investment – to multiple participants. A CSS project is hosted by an entity with a suitable roof or parcel of land and is supported by multiple participants, who invest in the project or purchase the electricity or net metering credits generated. CSS offers an alternative for those who cannot install solar on their own property.
Self-Reliance is offering solar energy credits produced from locally owned and installed solar projects to be purchased and applied to one’s electricity bill. The blocks of credits provide a 15% savings on your electricity bill and are offered as a yearly subscription, unlike many of the other community-shared solar programs available, which require a 20-year contract.
The Self-Reliance Heat and Power Cooperative’s Clean Energy Community Challenge offers options to you save energy and money, including solar electric, solar hot water, heat pumps and more. The staff at Self-Reliance is happy to go over various technologies, cost proposals and help consumers make more informed decisions about their energy choices. As a non-profit organization, their mission is to simplify complex energy concepts to educate, inform and empower people to take action.
