Self-Reliance is excited to announce that the 15th annual Junior Solar Sprint competition will be held on Saturday, May 21st at the Cape Cod Community College in West Barnstable.

The Junior Solar Sprint is a challenging hands-on classroom activity for 4th-8th graders. The students design, build, and race model solar power cars and, in the process, learn about solar energy.

This year’s race is in partnership with Cape Cod STEM Network and is sponsored by Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), SolarRising and E2 Solar.

In 2015, 20 teams representing seven schools across the Cape raced in the competition and this year we look forward to welcoming new participants and race veterans as more schools become involved in this great program!

We always need volunteers to help time races, judge cars and help run the event. If you are interested in volunteering or you’re a teacher interested in participating in the program please email Sarah at sarah@reliance.org or call 508-563-6633.

Fingers crossed for a sunny day for our racers!
