The wholesale market has been crazy! Multiple jumps in price that I haven’t seen in the 9 years I’ve been here.
Please remember that our price is set based on the wholesale market which is driven by the stock market and futures trading. Our price is not based off the local dealer’s price. They are also feeling this fast and steep increase in the wholesale price.
It is good to keep in mind that from January 2013 to October 2014 the average price per gallon in the Plymouth to Orleans territory was over $3.00. Two years ago, February 2013, the average price for the month was $3.68. Makes February 2015’s average of $2.46 seem not quite so bad.
In the Eastham to Provincetown territory, the average price from January 2013 to October 2014 was $3.48 per gallon. Two years ago, February 2013, the average price for the month was $3.89. Makes February 2015’s average of $2.68 seem not quite so bad.
